wikipedia reported that liberty Leading the People is a painting by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830, A woman personifying Liberty leads the people forward over the bodies of the fallen, holding the tricolor flag of the French Revolution in one hand and brandishing a bayonetted musket with the other. This is perhaps Delacroix's best-known painting, having carved its own niche in popular culture. The painting is beautiful the way that i found out about the painting is i seen the cd case cover of the new coldplay album "viva la Vida" the painting is a true beaut i thought in my mind so i went online and searched for the painting i didn't know anything about the painting so i searched for it by the little description that i seen i searched first women leading the people. So then i found it and read alot about it and became more interested in the painting. What i also learned is Delacroix painted his work in the autumn of 1830. In a letter to his brother dated 12 October, he wrote: "My bad mood is vanishing thanks to hard work. I’ve embarked on a modern subject—a barricade. And if I haven’t fought for my country at least I’ll paint for her." The painting was first exhibited at the official Salon of May 1831. Delacroix rejected the norms of Academicism in favor of Romanticism. So much happened with the making of this painting and just the painting its self shows so much what i can infer is that the women holding the flag is very strong because shes barefooted and standing on wood. What was so interesting is that he put his name on the wood and it makes it look that the name is part of the wood i love it!!!!!! her standing on wood shows the pain don't hurt because shes liberty, justice. What a painting.
