Facts & History

Facts.
As of 2009 it was announced that AIDS is a pandemic, In Africa there are more deaths due to the infections, According to UNAIDS 2009 report, worldwide over 60 million people have been infected by AIDS, with some 25 million deaths, and 14 million orphaned children in southern Africa alone since the epidemic started and was announced. Africa has high numbers of infections but higher number of deaths, I suggest/ Demand that you research more on Africa and how the AIDS epidemic has shaped Africa. There has been a genetic research that has indicated that AIDS has originated in west-central Africa during the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The earliest known infection of the HIV-1 virus comes from the Congo in 1959 and 1960
AIDS was first reported June 5, 1981, the first 5 people who were recognized as being infected were gay men and the disease was first named GRID , which stood for Gay-related immune deficiency, has been used. At that time there was no name for the disease but because the first accounts were gay men then it was considered a “Gay disease”, but after determining that AIDS was not isolated to the gay community, the term GRID became offensive and the term AIDS was finally introduced at a meeting in July 1982. Since then people began to die and anyone who had AIDS died instantly, still today there is no cure for AIDS but there is treatment to make people who are infected to live longer and healthier lives.
